Model A cabinets are available as open or closed back. All of our cabinets are dovetail joined and come in a few different woods. When I first decided to make amps and cabinets I thought a distinctive look was in order so I began experimenting with natural finishes and stains. I always had an inkling that there are other woods out there that might make great sounding speaker cabinets aside from pine.
Cherry is a lightweight but very hard wood with beautiful grain. They happen to make a sound that matches my amps perfectly. A slightly “woodier” tone is produced that just speaks beautifully and looks amazing. Our Cherry cabinets are planed from 3/4 selected raw Cherry stock. We lightly seal and hand dye the raw cherry wood either Cherry Red or Midnight Blue, then final seal with multiple clear coats of satin lacquer.
For those skeptical about natural finish guitar amps – we’re not building furniture here! Cherry wood constructed cabinets sound amazing and that is the first reason we make them – plus they look amazing. I often remind players who tell me that they might be afraid to take such beautiful woodwork out to the stage that they will still look amazing once they earn a few dings. Just like guitars do. In fact, these cabinets will likely look a lot better after 20 years than torn up tolex. We also offer custom fitted padded canvas covers and fitted flight cases.
